Nondiscrimination

The Formative Foundation is committed to creating an environment free from discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying in all programs, activities, volunteer opportunities, and employment practices. The Foundation does not tolerate discrimination or unequal treatment based on actual or perceived ancestry, age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, immigration status, religion or beliefs, sexual orientation, parental status, pregnancy, family or marital circumstances, military or veteran status, genetic information, or association with a person or group possessing any of these actual or perceived characteristics.

All Foundation representatives—including staff, volunteers, and partners—are expected to take prompt and appropriate action to address or prevent harassment or discriminatory behavior whenever it is safe to do so.

The Formative Foundation strictly prohibits sexual harassment of employees, volunteers, program participants, and others involved in Foundation activities. For purposes of this policy, sexual harassment is defined broadly consistent with California law under the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), and includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Retaliation against any individual who reports, files a complaint, provides information, or otherwise participates in an investigation of harassment or discrimination is also strictly prohibited.

Any individual who believes they have experienced or witnessed discrimination or harassment is encouraged to report it promptly to the Executive Director. In the event the complaint involves the Executive Director, reports should be directed to the Board Chair. The Foundation will investigate all complaints promptly and confidentially to the extent practicable.
